Culture in Provence

Few places in the world have such a magnet for artist than Provence and the French Riviera.

As you know many natives count among the greatest artists ever from novelist Emile Zola to painter Paul Cezanne. But it is incredible to see how many artist from all over the world has spent parts of their lives in Provence. Did you that Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche wrote the last and fourth parts of Thus Spoke poke Zarathustra in Nice?

Better known are the works of Van Gogh and Gauguin during the time spent in southern France. 20th century has also been good for painting in Provence. Picasso, Braque and Van Dongen, all have settle in their Provence villa for the last part of their lives. Sculptor liked the place too, Giacometti being the most prominent of them.
